HOW DOES OUR FINAL PERFORMANCE REFLECT THE CORONAVIRUS ERA?
Instead of a performance we decided to create a video to showcase the dance we learned over zoom. It is very clear from watching this video that it was filmed during the coronavirus era. Some of our members did not have their tap shoes at home as they were left on campus. One of these performers felt comfortable performing parts of the choreography in converse while another chose instead to freestyle hip hop.
Additionally, we feature a variety of dance styles as well as a guest performer that would not have been included in a live performance. We decided to add this to show off our others skills and have fun with the process. In addition to other types of dance, two dogs make an appearance as well. This is a nod to all the times our dogs (who we call our “team mascots”) interrupted rehearsal which is an issue we would never face in the studio.
Lastly, the video clearly reflects the ways our members were forced to rehearse and perform in new settings due to the pandemic. Many of us had to find random pieces of wood--and in one scenario, an art cutting mat--to tap on. As you can see, the clips were filmed in living rooms, in garages, and outside showcasing our makeshift studios this quarter.
We hope you enjoy our final performance of the 2019-2020 season, which captures how our love of tap dance survived through the CoronaVirus pandemic!
