tap dance during the covid-19 pandemic
For their Anthropology of Music class, members Alissa LaFerriere and Danna D'Esopo analyzed Dynamic Rhythm's process creating a virtual tap dance performance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their goal with this project was both to showcase the way tap dance worked to foster community and "a sense of normalcy" for Dynamic Rhythm performers as well as provide comfort and entertainment to viewers during a time when in-person collaboration, interaction, and performance became limited. Additionally, by viewing tap dance as a form of music-making, the Dynamic Rhythm process of virtual learning and performance acts a case-study for how musical practices and groups have adapted to the circumstances of a global pandemic.
